Young Voices Opinion Poll
Kosova has the youngest population in Europe, every fourth person falls in the range of 15-24 years old. Kosova is also one of the poorest countries in Europe. Its economy is moving at the pace of the snail compared to other countries in the region, and unemployment is still at shocking high levels. While many agree that the future of the country lies heavily on young people, this seems to bypass young people of Kosova. The desperate picture of the country leaves the Kosova youth with unclear perspectives of where their future is heading to. Furthermore, young Kosovars seem to have limited impact on the institutions related to their everyday lives.
If Kosova is to pursue its path towards European integration, the first step should be taken towards empowering its youth, as Kosova cannot afford to ignore its young potential. Unless Kosova invests more in its young people, it stands no chance of becoming a competitive economy within the larger European market.
With this in mind, IKS takes an unusual look into the thoughts and feelings of Kosovar young people, their perception about the present and future of the country, thus hoping to influence in better policy making for the best interest of Kosovar children and youth. This UNICEF financed project started in December 2009 and is foreseen to finish in spring 2010. As part of this project, IKS will also undertake the production of a short documentary.
