Political Landscape of Kosovo
The political landscape in Kosovo is changing. Competencies held by internationals immediately after the war have since been transferred to the Government of Kosovo. Following the Declaration of Independence, the Government has almost sole control over most areas of life. Further, the fact that Kosovo has gained its independence means that more than 10 years old platform of all political parties independence - no longer holds teeth. Old political party loyalties seem to be slowly fading as Kosovar citizens look for who will represent them and who will address the numerous social issues presently plaguing Kosovo. National enthusiasm seems to be on the decline as people look for leaders who can resolve the numerous social problems facing Kosovo. In the fast-approaching elections, political parties will have to step forward with new proposals and clearer platforms that will address these issues.
In the midst of this shifting political landscape, no open, systematic analysis of the aforementioned trends and the underlying factors driving them has been carried out. Through this project, IKS proposes to analyze systematically the political landscape in Kosovo and then to communicate research findings clearly to the people of Kosovo. If citizens know more about how parties function, how programs are established, and how decisions are made within the party, then they will be able to make more informed choices in regards to who will represent them.
This BTD-funded project began in October 2009 and is foreseen to be concluded in summer 2010.
