Engjellushe Morina, Executive Director of IKS, participated in ESI organized seminar on “Communicating Europe: Swedish Perspectives on EU Enlargement.” This seminar mainly examined the nature and dynamics of Swedish EU enlargement debate in the run up to the Swedish EU Presidency starting on July 1st. The seminar also discussed the state of opinion in Sweden among policy-makers, politicians, interest groups, think-tanks, academia, the media and public opinion. Guest speakers from the Swedish government, political parties, and the business community provided insights in Swedish’s policy debates and participated in informal and frank discussions. Main issues raised were the following: What are the attitudes to future enlargement in Sweden; What are the competing visions of the future of Europe among Swedish policy elites; Who are the key policy-players and opinion formers? What is the role of the major parties, the opposition, the party institutes, think tanks and the media; What are the major concerns of Swedish policy makers when it comes to the future of the Western Balkans. Participants included government representatives as well civil society and media representatives from Western Balkan countries.
